What is Ambassdor Whiskey?

Established in 2012, The Whiskey Ambassador program is the original accredited Scotch whiskey training course. Having been based for a number of years in Scotland, the Whiskey Ambassador's emphasis on immersive and interactive learning has seen our courses expand rapidly to spread intimate knowledge of Scotch whiskey across 22 countries and six continents.

Who validates the course?

All The Whiskey Ambassador programs are accredited by the BIIAB, the UK's leading rating body. They are also recognized by the Scottish Whiskers Society

What does Level 1 cover?

The Whiskey Ambassador is a one day program that covers:

  1. The economic impact of Scotch whiskey

  2. How, when and where it all started

  3. where and how is it done

  4. Smell and tasting technique

  5. mixers and cocktails

  6. Sales and customer service

  7. Responsible consumption emphasizing the motto “Drink less, drink better”

  8. Other whiskeys in the world

How is the exam?

The Level 1 exam has two parts. A written exam and a practical exam. The theoretical part consists of questions that the candidate must answer. The practical part is a tasting, with 4 representative whiskeys from the regions of Scotland, the candidate must identify the main profile of each one.

How much is approved?

To accredit the level, a passing grade must be obtained in the 2 tests. A 75/100 in the written exam and 2/4 in the practical exam.

How did Whiskey Ambassador come about?

The Whiskey Ambassador program originated for those working in the whiskey industry in Scotland. In Scotland, Scotch whiskey is a very important means of attracting tourism, it is the number one reason why people go to Scotland, they have more than 130 distilleries, 81 of which are open to the public, so a training program to give an education and a solid foundation to explain Scotch whisky.

Is it just Scotch whisky?

All courses have Scotch whiskey as their main focus, but the processes and history of other whiskey producing regions are covered. In this aspect, the tutors in each region are free to deepen at their discretion regarding this topic.
