Distillery Select is considered Kavalan’s introductory range. The idea behind creating this range is to satisfy both beginners and connoisseurs. In the words of Kavalan CEO, Yu-Ting Lee (李玉鼎), “With this range, drinkers will get the benefit of our team’s fine craftsmanship at a surprising price point. We’re doing things differently. We look for the flavor profile first, rather than a particular cask.” Currently, the Distillery Select range consists of three expressions: Distillery Select, Distillery Select No. 1, launched in November 2018, and Distillery Select No. 2, which was first released on April 29, 2020, priced at NTD 1,000 (approximately USD 34). “Each whisky in this range showcases a different facet of Kavalan’s distinctive character.”

Tasting Notes

Nose: Herbal (fresh pine and rose) ripe fruits (grapefruit, peach, cherry), toasted cereal, spices (ginger) and vanilla

Taste: Fairly light on the palate, woody with almond sweetness and slightly fruity

Aftertaste: Medium and a little bit dry

With water, many of the notes are masked, but the caramel sweetness and fruity notes stand out.

This Distillery Select No. 2 expression is quite smooth and with good aromatic complexity, demonstrating great work in the blending process. I believe it delivers what was promised: to be a palate-pleasing introductory whisky for both beginners and experienced palates. Therefore, our classification is as follows:
